Welcome from the Headteacher

Welcome to John Randall

If this is your first visit to our website – enjoy please have a look at ‘the day in the life of a child video’ to give you a flavour of our wonderful school.

‘It takes a village to raise a child’… African proverb

In these uncertain times of Covid-19, social distancing and an uncertain future – it is natural for everyone to feel fearful and literally ‘lock down’.

Whether we are here in person or working from home as part of our school rota- we are still the John Randall family that you know.

Please do not hesitate to contact us in school if you or a member of your family is ‘wobbling’ and needs a friendly voice.  This goes for anything relating to routines, promoting good behaviour choices and school based learning.

We are always Being Ready, Respectful and SAFE!

Perhaps we could see this change as an opportunity to rethink the way we do things?  The way we interact with each other?

Each teacher has put up lots of ideas for home learning on your child’s class page. But please don’t see this as us wanting you to ‘teach’ your children at home. They are ideas for you to spend time with your children. To have fun! To show them some life skills that will be far more useful to them in the future however well they do at school.

Here’s the top list that’s really important for life.. everyday

Reading together – to each other and alone. If you can’t read life is a challenge!

Playing board games and card games – this is about being kind and team work!

Go outside in the garden or just outside your house. Play I spy, plant some veg or herbs.

Making beds

Washing up – drying up

Cleaning shoes

Folding clothes

Putting on a duvet and pillow cases

Laying the table or a tray

Using a knife fork and spoon

Show your child how to do it – don’t expect them to know. Do it with them for a while – make a game of it!

It’s great to have all this time at home for a while –  but try to keep your routines in place. This is how children feel really safe. It’s how teachers feel good too!   Getting up routines, getting dressed! Bedtime routines.  Keep them as you would in the week. It will keep adults sane too!

Please remember to monitor your child’s internet devices as they may be spending more time on them than normal. Check the settings of all devices and remember that social networking is illegal for all children under 13.  Our on-line games/ programmes from teachers are all ok to use!

Please use the networking platforms we have put up. Tapestry for the Early years and year 1. We are having great communication with you!  Mrs Wust in year 6 will be contacting her class to use an online platform too. The rest of the classes will follow in turn.

If you are a key worker or have been contacted by school – we are open through the Easter holidays and beyond.

I hope you are all safe and well with your loved ones. By keeping indoors we are keeping our children safe and supporting all the key workers who are working so hard to get us back to normal.

Keep safe and well…

Best wishes

Ms Stephanie Dowley
