Music

Led by Mrs Maines

At John Randall Primary School and Nursery, we teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression. Our Music curriculum is supported by a professional music teacher who supports the children and teachers to develop knowledge and skills. The children listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historic periods and genres. Lessons enable children to develop their skills, appreciate a wide variety of music and begin to appraise a range of musical genres.

Music is taught weekly, alternating between professional music teacher led session and teacher led sessions supported by Charanga. This allows the children to develop a deep understanding and build on their skills.

Alongside our curriculum provision for music, pupils also have the opportunity to participate

in additional 1:1 music teaching by being offered the opportunity to learn a musical

instrument with peripatetic teachers. Our peripatetic music teachers are employed by the school and children in years 4, 5 and 6 have the opportunity to audition. Lessons and instruments are provided by the school free of charge.
