At John Randall Primary School and Nursery, we teach the National Curriculum, supported by a clear skills and knowledge progression set out by the White Rose Maths Hub guidance. Maths topics are taught in blocks, to enable the achievement of a deeper understanding and mastery over time. This ensures that skills and knowledge are built on year-by-year and sequenced appropriately to maximise learning for all children.

Why should I play maths games with my child?

Children make progress best as mathematicians when they regularly repeat skills and practise them until they become embedded. This can be quite a long process sometimes, and so the use of the context of an exciting game or interesting activity can be highly motivating. In our experience, our children learn best when they are having fun and that’s what games are for!
