Year 4 is an exciting time; pupils are becoming older and beginning to develop independence, both in class and school. The curriculum offers challenges through engaging topics which pupils find interesting and thought provoking. In addition to termly trips to support learning, we undertake a residential visit to Laches Wood. Whilst tiring, this provides pupils with new experiences and opportunities to understand themselves and others, and have an enjoyable time away from home. Year 4 is the first year that pupils go swimming with the school. Historically we have had a range of abilities from non-swimmers through to those who attend regular lessons, and all are catered for to ensure development in their swimming.
Homework continues to be given out weekly and contains spellings and another piece, often Maths. There is a big push on learning Times Tables in Year 4, as this is invaluable in a learner’s mathematical development and competence. Your child will also have a school reading book and reading record for you to complete when you have heard them read, in common with other pupils in the school.
If you have any concerns please do speak to us, we are here to help your child achieve their best.
Year 4 will be having PE on a Tuesday and swimming on a Thursday this term. Please ensure that your child has their swimming kit and PE kit in school.
Reading at Home
Please encourage your child to read as often as possible at home.
Your child should aim to change their book at least once a week.
Children often like to read their favourite book from home and this can also be recorded in the home reading record.
Here are some suggestions of how you can help you child with their reading.
